Advances in Thermophysical Property Prediction

In the past two years, substantial progress has been achieved in the development of models for predicting thermodynamic and transport properties of electrolyte systems. The mixed-solvent electrolyte (MSE) model has benefited from a great expansion of databank coverage for both electrolyte and nonelectrolyte components. The presentation will review the chemical systems for which a comprehensive treatment has been established in the MSE framework. Also, the suite of transport property models is about to include a new model for thermal conductivity in addition to the previously developed models for electrical conductivity, viscosity and diffusivity. The MSE models constitute OLI’s thermophysical engine for the future while the older aqueous model is being maintained and upgraded in response to users’ needs.

Andre Anderko is the Managing Director and Chief Technology Officer of OLI Systems. Andre obtained his Ph.D. in physical chemistry in 1989. Prior to joining OLI in 1995, he worked for Simulation Sciences, Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory and Polish Academy of Sciences. Andre’s activities at OLI focus on thermodynamic and transport properties of electrolyte and nonelectrolyte systems, modeling of aqueous corrosion of metals and management of simulation technology development. Andre has acted as principal investigator for a number of research projects sponsored by the Department of Energy, NIST’s Advanced Technology Program and Gas Research Institute. He has authored or co-authored 71 papers and one book and given more than 90 presentations. He is the recipient of the Helmholtz Award of the International Association for the Properties of Water and Steam and the Bengough Award of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining.
